Penmaenmawr has a population of 3,857 (2001 Census) and for local government purposes the town is divided into three wards. The town has 15 councillors representing the following wards – Penmaenan (3 councillors), Pant-yr-Afon (6), and Capelulo (6). The present councillors were elected in May 2008 to serve a four-year term.
The Council at its Annual Meeting in May elects a Town Mayor and Deputy Mayor. The Town Mayor receives an allowance to cover the costs involved in undertaking civic duties. Councillors receive no payment for their time, but may claim reimbursement for out of pocket expenses, such as travelling outside of the town council area. The Council currently employs a single member of staff; the Town Clerk.
Penmaenmawr Town Council usually meets twice every month, except during August. Meetings are held at the The Town Office, 3 Central Buildings, Pant-yr-Afon, Penmaenmawr, Conwy Telephone: 01492 623221 and are usually on the first and third Tuesday each month commencing at 6.30pm.
